Based in West End, Southampton, we’re a family-run business trusted by thousands of local residents, tradespeople and businesses across Hampshire.
Local Vehicle Hire you can Rely On
Unlike many national rental companies, we’re a local independent business with extensive knowledge of Southampton and the surrounding area. Our convenient West End location provides easy access from Southampton, Eastleigh, Hedge End, Winchester, Fareham and beyond.
With over 250 vehicles available, we offer one of the largest rental fleets in the region, including small vans, long wheelbase vans, Luton vans, tippers, dropsides, cars, trucks and minibuses.
Moving House in Southampton?
Hiring a van is often the most cost-effective way to move home. From collecting furniture purchases to completing a full house move, we have a range of vehicles suitable for every requirement. If you’re unsure what size van you’ll need, our team will be happy to advise and recommend the most suitable option.
Many customers hire our Luton vans for larger house moves, while our smaller vans are ideal for collecting furniture, appliances or DIY materials from local stores across Southampton and Hampshire.
Trusted by Local Tradespeople and Businesses
We work with tradespeople and businesses throughout Southampton who need reliable vehicles to keep their operations running smoothly. From electricians and plumbers to builders and landscapers, our vans are regularly hired for both short-term and long-term use.
For businesses requiring additional vehicles during busy periods, contract hire and long-term rental options are available. Many companies find vehicle hire a flexible and cost-effective alternative to purchasing additional vehicles outright.
Convenient Southampton Airport and Hampshire Access
Our Southampton location is ideally placed for customers arriving via Southampton Airport or travelling from elsewhere in Hampshire. We can also arrange vehicle delivery and collection for many customers, helping to make the hire process as convenient as possible.
Whether you’re visiting the area, relocating, or simply need temporary transport, our team will do everything possible to get you on the road quickly and efficiently.
Flexible Hire with 24-Hour Drop-Off
We understand that plans don’t always fit within standard opening hours. That’s why we offer a secure 24-hour drop-off facility, allowing you to return your vehicle when it’s convenient for you, including evenings and early mornings.
Combined with competitive pricing, a modern fleet and friendly local service, it’s one of the many reasons customers continue to choose Pitter Self Drive for van hire in Southampton year after year.

Brilliant find! Excellent communication, availability and personable service. Van was in good order with clear instructions. With 24 hour drop off service for flexibility. Good value for money and a friendly environment. Highly recommend this van and car hire business.

Good service received from start to finish from reception to inspecting the vehicle beforehand and copies of documents.
Vehicle as required and received clean and tidy in and out. Rate also better than most other vehicle hires out there. Also security available for out of hours return of vehicle.
Have used Pitters previously and will more then likely again in future if a van is required.
